I’ve been carrying
This guitar ‘round all week
I’ve been so tired
That I can’t fall asleep
And I’ve been wondering about
Things I cannot see
Hear a footstep on the stair
When I know nobody’s there
But I wonder
If it could be
Somebody else like me
Carrying their guitar around
For a century
I’ve been carrying
The past inside of me
I’ve been so sick with it
The rage was blinding me
And I’ve been hoping that
The lives I could have lived
Are still waiting for me when
I find my footing once again
And if I’m smiling
Maybe it means
Somebody else like me
Got rid of the shadows from
The last century
Stayed up all night
With the lesser light
Along with all dwellers of
This land of death-shade
We welcome the shining of
We welcome the shining of
We welcome the shining of
The light of day
I’ve been carrying
This guitar ‘round all week
Getting rid of the shadows from
The last century

The Skywriter

It’s kinda funny to say it loud
But I don’t know who I am right now
And when I caught a glimpse of myself
In the sliding glass door
With the sofa behind it
I wondered if I
Have always been
Something of an apparition
Creeping around in my own socks
Like my name’s not on the mailbox
I guess that by now
I thought there’d be
Some kind of life-defining thing
Happening
I need a skywriter
Spelling it out for me
I felt kinda silly when I talked to my mom
She said “You’re looking at this all wrong
Look back and realize
How far you’ve come
I know what it feels like
To feel unknown
But I’ll pick up my paintbrush
If you write your song”
Maybe it’s good
That I’ve always been
Something of an apparition
Creeping around kinda unseen
Wide eyed at every beautiful thing
So what if by now
I thought there’d be
Some kind of life-defining thing
Happening
Mama she’s a skywriter
Spelling it out for me

The Lonely Hearts

Did I know that you were broken
Yeah I did but to be fair
I thought that my self loathing
Was a mate to your despair
You know I kept on saying
“Say you love me still”
I didn’t know you had never
I don’t think that you ever will
I think you only see rivals
And I was outmatched from the start
Hearts are not collector’s items
But shattered ones make works of art
I call this one
The Lonely Hearts
Was it fair that I was hoping
That both the sides would cede
The ammo long collected
But it seems we both need
Something the other can’t give up
Oh the world could fall
Didn’t think it would ever
May be time that I go to the wall
Don’t want to deal in denials
I want to see things as they are
Hearts are not collector’s items
Here in the ruins I guess that they are
I call this one
The Lonely Hearts
Did you ever wake up and cry in the morning
White Florida sunshine
But inside it’s storming
I never thought that I’d write this song
I see that I’m just hanging on
I don’t think we should be rivals
Somehow we’re here and we are
Hearts are not collector’s items
Here in the ruins I guess that they are
They build museums for pieces like ours
Hang this one up
It’s called The Lonely Hearts

The Time Traveler

I am coming
From the Land of Nod
Holding my ticket
And I’m looking down the tracks
For the train that’ll take me back to life
All the scenes are playing
In my head
Didn’t buy a ticket
But I’ll listen to the tracks
Hear the one that’ll bring me back to you
Hear the wind blowing through my room
Feel the wind blowing through my room
I am going somewhere
Somewhere I don’t know
Streams are dreaming under the bridge below
And the train’s coming to the station
Will there be someone there waiting
Hear the wind blowing through my room
Feel the wind blowing through my room
Hear the wind blowing through my room
Feel the wind blowing through my room
Train coming to the station
Will there be someone there waiting

Gileah Taylor Florida
Floridian songbird releases an epilogue to 2024's Slow Parade. The four song EP, titled I Call This One, was recorded in Tennessee with producers Gideon and Gabe Klein. The Klein brothers perfectly match the songs with their instrumentation: simply sweet, straightforward and full of heart, echoing the music that came out of Laurel Canyon in the 1960s and 70s. Released on Velvet Blue Music. ... more
